Power has always been part of many sports and golf is no exception. In golf, power has often translated to how far they can send the ball in a single hit. Unfortunately, there are a number of golfers that are running around, thinking that their form doesn't matter if they can go for the hole-in-one. It's just a sad way to approach golf.
The problem with dedicating yourself to a powerful swing is that the amount of distance you gain is sorely outclassed by the decrease in your accuracy.
Great players know better than to force more power out of their bodies. They know that forcing the issue can lead to disaster, with backs getting thrown out or worse, their technique completely deteriorating into a joke.
Most players who've tried can tell you that it only took a few weeks of play to make convince them to go back to their original style.
Stronger swings can't be aimed as well and thus, are extremely prone to hitting hazards such as a water hazard or sand traps. Accurate shots can easily avoid these and can coast to a win over people who can't control their shots.
Each person is different. Some people can just swing harder than others. Just accept your physical limitations and then create a game plan to work around it. Plan to win a game, not just to have some little trick up your sleeve.
The greatest players know that one person's treasure can easily be another person's garbage. Don't try to just imitate one - try out many different swings and styles and look for the one that you're most comfortable with and the most effective. You'll find that it's just easier for you this way and if you happen to have some serious power on your side? Well, there's nothing wrong with that.
